September 2001 Archives
It's been a while without any updates, but everything is moving forward as planned. Our building permit was approved on September 10th and issued by the city on the 19th. Houseworks, our general contractor, is currently working up the detailed timeline and budget and is planning to start work on October 8th. We're planning to move to our rental house next Friday, October 5th. Whee!
Neither Brad nor I have felt like writing lately. The current situation has caused so much sadness, uncertainty and anxiety; words have been displaced by horrific images, disturbed imaginings. Uncomfortable questions loop through my mind: What is it like to die in an explosion of jet fuel? What is it like to hear a building collapse around you? What is it like to call your husband on a cell phone to say good bye? I feel guilty having these thoughts, like I'm gawking at a car wreck. I can't stop them, though.
Wow. Quite a day. This morning, we met with our new landlords and signed a lease on the house we'll be renting during the remodel. It's great to finally have that resolved.
This afternoon, we got a call from Steve at The Johnson Partnership. The Permit Intake Meeting went well and our application is being expedited. We could have the building permit in hand a week from now! Tomorrow, we will call our contractor and the movers to get things going. Too cool.
