The concrete crew spent the first four days of this week setting the forms & rebar for the new foundation. Today was The Pour. They started at about 7:45 this morning. Two hours and two trucks full of concrete later and they were done. Tomorrow, they're planning to come back and remove the forms. So, we have a foundation. Cool.
When we stopped by the house on Wednesday, we saw something else exciting, in its own way. There was a big pallet of lumber sitting in our driveway. It was the first bit of stuff that will become our house. The destruction is really over; the construction is here!
The excavation crew finished up today and I must say, they've created a very attractive big hole in our yard.
The concrete work should start Monday as planned. A second section of our hedge is gone, as are a few other plants from around the house. The house looks downright naked. The decision to get rid of the hedge wasn't an easy one. We have a picture of our house taken in the 1930s and the hedge was already a formidable presence by then. Now that it's (mostly) gone, we know we made the right decision.
In other news, I stopped by the appliance place today to finalize our selections for the kitchen. Not surprisingly, prices have gone up since we got our original quote back in June. Sigh.
