Realizing that the man waiting in line behind me and Charlie at the University of Washington Medical Center Triangle Parking Garage pay booth is Bill Gates. Not saying anything to Bill Gates ("Thank you for the billions of dollars you're donating to eradicate disease and hunger and to educate children" comes to mind) because sometimes a guy should be able to pay for his parking without fanfare.
Having three days of sun in a row and getting antsy for the clouds to return.
Attending Ballard's annual Syttende Mai parade, where we got to see high school marching bands, unicyclists, people dressed as vikings, trucks decked out like viking boats, and lots of old folks and little kids wearing Norwegian folk costumes and waving Norwegian flags. It was great fun.
Being served a divine latte by celebrity barista Bronwen Serna at Espresso Vivace's new cafe.
Walking across the street to buy sustainably farmed Tasmanian wool socks at REI.
Contemplating returning to Vivace for another latte after the socks shopping.
Planning bogus trips to REI, with the real objective of stopping in at Vivace for coffee.
Checking out schools in that area with the thought that Vivace coffee would be ours after dropping the kids off.
For Charlie: first asparagus, first independent standing (for only a few seconds, but standing nonetheless!), and some new words: donut, hammer
(Okay, his enunciation is about what you'd expect from a 10 month old, but he clearly is trying to say these words. I mean, reaching for another bite of donut while saying "doh-doh-doh-na" is pretty clear. Well, to Brad, Henry, and I it was. Yes, the child has consumed part of a donut. Let the hammers of judgement fall on our heads. Soon, our donut-eating child will be able to say that: "hammers of judgement." Cool.); second blood draw (not fun, three pokes, ouch)
For Henry: riding his bike without training wheels!!!!!! I smile uncontrollably whenever I think of this.
Good night.
I just finished a strange but delicious lunch. I had melted brie and avocado on a red chile pepper flavored tortilla, 2 small organic hydroponic tomatoes, a lavender Dry Soda, and probably too many Kettle Foods Spicy Thai potato chips. Man, those chips are good. They drowned out all the other flavors, but I didn't start eating them until I'd almost finished everything else and realized I was still hungry. Or maybe it was their seductive siren song calling out to me as I walked past the bag in our kitchen.
Sometimes we are so slow. How is it that we've lived in Seattle for almost 10 years and only last week discovered the joy that is Dick's Drive In? It's like our own local In-N-Out burger, with ice cream. Yum.
