Ch-ch-ch-changes...

We returned from our New England trip on Wednesday to discover most of the house next door gone.

We weren’t completely taken by surprise, but it did happen much sooner than we expected. A few months ago, the former rental house was put up for sale. There was a flurry of activity, then the For Sale sign came back down, but nothing much changed. I checked the King County Department of Assessments web site and found it had been sold to Eco Seattle Homes. It was pretty clear we’d be getting a new, bigger house next door to us in the near future. I checked with the Seattle Department of Planning and Development and there was indeed a permit application for the demolition of a single family residence and another for construction of a new house.

Eco Seattle Homes is building four new houses in the next block south of us (on what had been two lots). If they’re any indication, we’re going to have a huge house next door with a little more personality than many of the in-fill houses around here. We’re already planning to get in touch with our architects again about reviving our plan for a pergola/arbor over our patio…
