Sonos Steps Up

Just a few months ago, I wrote about my music-playing journey from CD through SLIMP3 and Squeezebox to Sonos. At the time, Apple had just released Remote, an application that allows you to control an Apple TV or iTunes using an iPhone (or iPod Touch). It was quite a revelation and clearly put the clunky Sonos Controller to shame.

Well, today, Sonos has roared back with its Sonos Controller App for the iPhone (or iPod Touch). It does everything Apple's Remote App does with Apple TV and then some. All the great multi-room features of the Sonos system are accessible, as is the ability to stream directly from Rhapsody, Pandora, Napster, and Last.fm. Very cool. Thanks, Sonos! You can cancel that "Controller 2.0" project now.

There's lots more about the new Controller app at Boing Boing Gadgets, Engadget, and Gizmodo.
