The Big Picture

A few weeks ago, it seemed like every weblog I read was raving about the Boston Glob’s Big Picture weblog. I’ve already posted a couple links there myself, but it’s worth a post of its own.

What is The Big Picture? Its creator has this to say on his weblog:

The Big Picture is intended to highlight high-quality, amazing imagery - with a focus on current events, lesser-known stories and, well, just about anything that comes across the wire that looks really interesting. Each entry will be made up of anywhere from 6-18 photographs, tied together through some common narrative.

It’s brilliant. Where most news photo sites make you feel like you’re sorting through slides on a dim light table, The Big Picture is like a nice big stack of 8x10s. The pictures aren’t original to the site–they’re mostly from the AP, Reuters, and other news services. It’s the presentation that really makes the site unique.

Go take a look. Here, I’ll get you started with this post from a couple days ago on recent volcanic activity around the world.
