7281 From his obituary in the Boston Herald: “Born in Everett, he was raised in Salem. He began his military career as one of the youngest commissioned officers at that time. Mr. Bourgeois was stationed in submarines at Pearl Harbor and later in Washington, D.C., at the National War College. He traveled around the world on many diplomatic trips. His last tour of duty was with the 6th Fleet out of Naples, Italy. After 29 years of service, Mr. Bourgeois retired from the Navy and moved back to Melrose. He began a new career as a businessman, buying the Walter Dyer Leather Shop on Beacon Hill in Boston. At one time, his family owned seven leather shops.” Bourgeois, Edward Joseph Jr. (I1407)

“Eldest of six children. Worked for the cheese factory and later at the Box Factory both in Riplinger. He moved to Milwaukee for a year and worked at the Chain Belt Foundry there. After marrying Audris, he worked at Mandels Cheese Factory in Unity making cheese and hauling can milk. In 1966 Ralph and Audris purchased the homestead farm from his parents and continued farming until retirement in 1997. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 358 of Unity and was serving as commander. Ralph was a town board supervisor for the town of Unity for many years. He was a past president of St. John’s Lutheran Church Riplinger.”
