Notes |
- Is appears William and Carolyn may have had a stormy relationship. In May of 1915, Carolyn’s mother, Maggie Austin, filed suit to take custody of Kathryn Jensen, Carolyn’s daughter from her first marriage. At some point prior to the suit, the couple had asked Maggie to care for Kathryn, claiming they were unable to care for her. There were also accusations that William had abused Kathryn and that she was afraid of him. The couple separated and divorce proceedings were underway. Their reconciliation triggered Maggie Austin’s suit, which was denied by Judge Utterback on May 14.
In August 1928, William filed suit for divorce, followed shortly by a countersuit by Carolyn. They accused each other of cruel and inhuman treatment, William claiming that Carolyne forced him to give up his osteopathic and pharmacy practice, had his arrested, and “compelled him to remain away from home on some occasions.” Carolyn indicated that the two were separated and that William had come “to the residence where whe was living and turned off the electric light current.” [3, 4, 5, 6]
