| Notes |
- Arrived in New York aboard the Eider, sailing from Bremen. Moved to Union Hill, Hudson County, New Jersey in 1891, where he worked as a florist and horticulturalist for John Thumann. He became foreman of Thumann’s greenhouses after six months. On 7 July 1898, he leased the greenhouses from his employer and rand the establishment as his own. In 1904, he purchased the greenhouses of Rudolph Asmus in New Durham, Hudson County, New Jersey and conducted his business there through at least 1917. [1]
