• Notes

  Also known as Myra Gurley. I originally believed Nancy and Myra were separate siblings, but Nancy’s child by Herbert Woodard appears as Porter Hoyt’s step daughter in the 1900 census. Myra is shown as having one child, but there’s no record of a child with Porter. Also, Myra does not show up in the 1865 or 1870 censuses (nor does Nancy appear after 1870). Finally, the marriage record of Herbert and Nancy’s daughter Grace Woodward gives her mother’s name as Myra Gurley, which would seem to indicate once and for all that Nancy and Myra were the same person. On the other hand, Nancy is consistently shown with a 1859 birth year and Myra is consistently shown with a 1860 birth year, so perhaps they’re separate people after all.
