    Officially immigrated to the Netherlands in 1831; returned to Schale in 1834. Came to America in 1837 and spent six months in New York state between 1837 and 1838. Moved to Chicago in 1838, where he worked as a teamster. In 1849, moved to the 160 acre farm he owned two miles south of Barrington, Illinois (also owned 120 acres in Palatine Township). Retired from farming in 1877 and moved into the village of Barrington. Before 1877, he was the highway commissioner for Barrington Township.
