6446 Arrived in the U.S. in New York City on 14 May 1850 aboard the Alexander out of Bremen. Apparently travelled with Hermann Rottger and William Dittmers, both of Hohenaverbergen.

Jacob was a founding member of Saint Peter’s German Evangelical Church in Chicago.

Jacob had a store at the same location for 60 years. He lived with his daughter Augusta in 1910 and at 2549 N. Cornelia St. at the time of his death.

6447 Arrived in US through Ellis Island just before WWI (1913?). In Warsaw, he worked as a cobbler and as a city park service gardener. Left Poland to get away from a bad political situation (perhaps to avoid conscription). Probably lied about his age when he entered the country (or when he got married).

Had several siblings, including one sister in Poland and two (?) in US. Known as “Pa.” Had a big vegetable garden. Was fond of blackberry brandy. Name is pronounced “Gloof-ka” in Polish; means “head” or “big head.”

In 1942, he worked for City Mills in Norfolk, Massachusetts.
