  Research Notes	Age given as 53 in 1850 census, 60 in 1860 census, but 76 in 1870 census, putting her birth in about 1796, 1800 or 1793, respectively. Nancy is listed in the household of Abraham Smalling in the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Relationships were not shown in these years, but it seems likely she was Abraham’s mother, so I have listed her as such. Her birthplace is listed as North Carolina in 1850 and 1860 and Tennessee in 1870. It seems likely that she was born in the area currently occupied by Tennessee, which was the Southwest Territory at the time of her birth.  [1, 3, 4]
