Came to the US with his cousin Alfred Hildebrandt when they were both 17 (circa 1910). Alfred’s aunt and her family, including Alfred’s cousin William, were already here. Came from Oberlangenbielau, Silesia, which was a woolen town, to work in the woolen industry in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Attractive, small-framed and lean, but nicely proportioned and muscular with black hair and blue eyes. Dapper and handsome to his dying day. Always cultured and elegently civilized in his demeanor, nly had wine on special occasions; smoked a pipe and cigars, was quite a dancer, was good hearted and romantic and took loving care of his wife through 50 years of marriage.
At the time of the 1910 census, Herman was living with the family of his aunt and uncle, William and Anna Hildebrand.
