Research Notes | There was a filing for divorce against an August Schoelzel by Bertha (for cruelty) announced on 10 August 1889 in the Daily Inter Ocean and Chicago Daily Tribune. It is not clear whether this is the same August Schoelzel, though the timeline would make it possible. Wendell Mohr lists birth year as 1867. Elaine Schoelzel lists date of death at 8 Jul 1947. Laskowitz, Westpreußen is now Laskowice, Świecie County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. [1, 2, 14, 15] | |

Research Notes | Another source (Elaine Schoelzel?) gives marriage year as 1891. In the 1905 Wisconsin census, two additional children are listed in August and Anna’s household: Matilda and Emma Koehler, aged 12 and 14 years respectively. Both are listed as step-daughters of August. Their exact relationship is unclear. On their marriage license, Anna is listed as “Miss,” not “Mrs.,” which would normally indicate that she has not been previously married. Perhaps Matilda and Emma’s mother is Anna sister?
